Holiday DIY Gift Basket Ideas

Thank you Better Homes and Gardens at Walmart for sponsoring this post!

On today’s blog post, I wanted to share with you six holiday gift basket ideas that are so easy to make! A gift basket is a creative way to showcase a theme and customize it for the individual you’re gifting to. That person could be a teacher, family, neighbor, and co-workers. I got all the items for the gift baskets from Walmart which is a great one stop shop for the holiday season.

ONE // Baking Theme

I had a lot of fun with this one! If you know someone that loves to bake, consider doing this basket for them! I wanted to really showcase the red and green, so I selected items with those colors. Most of these items you can get at the holiday baking area. I included two Better Homes & Gardens magazines in the gift basket, but you could always replace those with an actual cookbook if you wanted. Also, if you’re gifting to a kid, add a kids’ baking book.

Once you have all your items for the gift basket, the next step is to find a basket big enough for all those goodies! Then I stuffed the bottom with some white tissue paper to keep the items in place. The last thing I did was add these snowballs to add to the Christmas theme.

What’s in the basket:

magazines / rolling pin / baking utensils / sprinkles / Icing / cookie cutters / oven mit

TWO // Movie Theme

After doing a movie night with these cozy blankets and cute popcorn bowls in my previous blog post, I knew that I had to do a movie theme!

The popcorn bowls and blanket take a lot of the space in the gift basket, but you can always add smaller items like a DVD, candy, popcorn, and popcorn seasoning. You can really go all out with it if you wanted! If the basket is for a child, switch up the blanket to a kid’s blanket and add a Disney movie to it.

I added these mini trees as a filler and to get that holiday theme in there too. You can also include a holiday gift tag like this one which says Merry Christmas.

What’s in the basket:

popcorn bowls / blanket / dvd / candy / popcorn

Three // Hot Chocolate Theme

These are perfect for younger kids! Even my daughter said that she wanted one of these when she saw me putting this together. There were so many cute mugs at the store, but I loved this one with the spoon already attached to it. If you want to gift this to an adult, just switch out the mug. You can also add in a Starbucks gift card in there too.

This small rope basket was perfect for this theme! To personalize the gift basket, I added this letter gift tag.

What’s in the basket:

mug / hot cocoa mix / candy cane / gift card

FOUR // Candle Theme

I had my mom in mind when I was putting this one together! I love how wax warmers can now look like it’s part of your decor. They had some super cute ones!

What’s in the basket:

wax warmer / candles / wax melts / lantern / candle holder

FIVE // New Home Theme

This is for the new neighbor or for your friend/family that just bought a house! I feel like you can never go wrong with kitchen stuff if you plan on gifting home items. I kept it neutral to keep it safe. 😉 You don’t want to give colorful pieces unless you know it’s their favorite color or if they have items in the kitchen with those colors.

Better Homes and Gardens has a modern farmhouse kitchen collection, so to keep the “look” consistent I picked items from there.

As mentioned before, I like to add some holiday fillers in there like these ornaments and bottle brush tree.

What’s in the basket:

dipping bowls set / salt & pepper shakers / sugar canister / serving bowl / cream pitcher

SIX // Dining Theme

If you know someone that likes to entertain, check out this one! Okay, maybe I added this theme because when I saw these plates and bowls I fell in love. There’s also a salad plate with the same pattern. For this gift theme, I also included the jute placemats, and you can include flatware too. I decided not to do a basket this time, but instead used a canvas gift bag!

What’s in the bag:

plates / bowls / flatware / placemats

Well, I hope you enjoyed those holiday gift basket ideas! Which one was your favorite? If you have any other theme ideas, I’d love to know!

I never thought about creating a “Movie Night” gift basket before, but it’s such a fun idea! Pairing popcorn with classic movies is a great way to spread holiday cheer and bring loved ones together. Thanks for the inspiration!

I also appreciate that you highlight how these gift baskets can be budget-friendly. It’s a fantastic reminder that meaningful gifts don’t have to come with a hefty price tag. I’m already thinking about doing a “cozy night in” basket for a couple of friends who love movie nights. Thanks for the inspiration and for making holiday gift-giving feel a little more special and thoughtful. Can’t wait to see what other creative ideas you come up with next!
