Thank you Better Homes and Gardens at Walmart for sponsoring this post!
It’s that time of year when everyone is into organization mode. Time to purge, time to organize, and get everything back in order after the holidays. As most of you know, we are living in a rental while we build our new house. I don’t like spending money on the rental (like decorating), but when it comes to kitchen organization sign me up! Today, I want to show you how I organized my pantry, junk drawer, and utensil drawers.
Okay, first off don’t judge me for what my drawers, cabinets, and pantry look like. Just showing you real life! 😉 Lets start off with the junk drawer. Admit it, you know you have one in your house! It’s that one drawer that is the catch all for all the random things. When you don’t know where else to put something, you stick it in the junk drawer!
The first thing I did was remove everything in that drawer. Oh, the things you’d find in a junk drawer! Ha! There was a lot in that drawer that just needed to be put away in its proper spot.
The next thing I did was place the bamboo drawer organizer and stackable 6×9 drawer organizer in the drawer and started organizing and grouping things together. You have to throw away items that’s either garbage or you know you won’t ever use again. Also, put away items that need to be placed somewhere else like the toy room or garage. Once you do all of that, the junk drawer goes from this…
…to this! Wow! What a difference!
Okay, next up are the utensil drawers! I did the same thing where I took everything out of the drawer, and then placed bamboo adjustable separators and bamboo stackable compartments in there. I grouped the items as you can see below like separating the orange, black, and wood utensils in its own section.
For the other drawer, I got rid of the plastic containers and replaced them with three big bamboo stackable compartments. As you can see in the before picture, I have the measuring cups and spoons all over the place, so I grouped all of those in its own area.
It makes such a huge difference to have these organizers in the drawers! Now, when the kids unload the dishwasher they know where to put the items. Even if they just ‘throw’ it in the drawer, at least it will still look organized! 😉
Okay, now for the pantry! I usually get the kids’ snacks in bulks, so our pantry is full of boxes and boxes of snacks. When I was organizing the pantry, I think I found 5 boxes that were completely empty! Anyone else’s kids leave empty boxes in the pantry for their mom to deal with? 😉 For the pantry, I wanted the snacks to be more organized and not have so many boxes in there, so I got some Better Homes and Gardens baskets in two sizes. I put all the snacks in there, got rid of the boxes, and what a difference that made!
If the kids complain that they’re hungry, we’re going to have problems! HA! I placed the baskets of snacks on the bottom, so the kids can easily get to them. I put the smaller snacks and smaller quantity snacks in the smaller baskets and placed them on the wire shelf. For the bigger baskets, I put the chips and cracks in there. Since it’s bigger baskets, I placed them on the ground.
Look at all the boxes I got rid of in the pantry!!
Now onto the spice cabinet! In our old house, we had spice drawers where all the spices were visible. At the rental, we have all the spices in one cabinet. As you can see, not all the spices are visible and you spend most of your time searching for the spice you want. I got these expandable spice racks from Walmart and placed them in the cabinet.
I placed the ones that we use all the time in the front bottom shelf and also grouped the brands as you can see on the second shelf. Love how it looks now!
I showed my husband the ‘reveal,’ and he was in shock. HA! What do you think of the kitchen organization? It feels so good to have these areas organized! Now I have to work on my linen closet in our master bathroom. That closet is a disaster. Wish me luck! If you have any organization tips for me, comment them below!
