As mentioned before in my previous blog post, we decided to go with Cambek for our garage doors. I had also shared with you our finalized garage door design on that blog post. Before the production of our doors, DJ from Cambek came to our house in April and did a site inspection. He took measurements inside and outside our garage to confirm the height and width of the openings. In addition to taking measurements, DJ also made sure everything was wired and framed right for our garage doors.
We were fortunate enough to have a Cambek team member conducting the inspection, and DJ will be the same person installing our garage doors! It will depend on distance from River Falls, WI (Cambek’s headquarters), the difficulty of the job, and availability of their partners to conduct site inspections and installations versus a contracted installer. Don’t worry, each contracted installer is hand-selected and extremely thoroughly vetted by Cambek’s Customer Service/Install Specialist.
Then we headed to the pool house where we’ll be having another garage door. The pool house was originally supposed to be a garage for storage, but when we decided to do a pool this year, it got converted to a pool house. The garage door in this space will be the same design as our main garage doors.
Since the basement garage is now a finished pool house instead of just storage space, DJ recommended doing a jackshaft garage door opener. This means the opener won’t be overhead hanging from the ceiling and instead, wall-mounted on the side of the garage door. In the image below, the jackshaft opener will be on the left side corner of the garage door. After he took measurements of this opening, he also made sure our electric and wall space would work for the jackshaft opener. This definitely utilizes our space better since it’s a finished area…it won’t be an eyesore on the ceiling!
Once the site inspection is complete, then the doors will go into production. Cambek ships nationwide, and they’ve even done jobs in the Bahamas! Their lead time for custom garage doors is around 6-8 weeks. The wait is worth it when you’re getting beautiful custom garage doors!
If you’re still in the design phase of your house and want custom garage doors, Cambek does a variety of styles:
Carriage
Hurricane/Wind-load Rated – beautiful doors that will stand up to weather and codes
Integrated walk-through (patented by Cambek) – man door/ walk-through door in the same frame as the garage door
Complementary walk-through – walk-through door styled to match the garage doors
Wicket – door within a door
…and basically anything else you could dream of! Sky is the limit!
Can’t wait for my garage doors to be installed!
