My office in the new house is narrow, and I really had to think about where I was going to put my desk. Here is the floor plan of my office. I’m sharing three options on where to put my desk.
Option 1: against that wall on the left
Option 2: against the wall on the top
Option 3: in the middle facing the door on the right
I knew I wanted to do some sort of built-in and the only place where this could go is the wall on the left. Since I was doing the built-in on that wall, then my desk would need to go against the wall on the top or put it in the middle of the office. When I mentioned this to you all on Instagram, a lot of you said not to put it against that wall on the top because my back would be towards the windows. I agree, and I also think that the light shining through the windows would put a glare on my computer/laptop. That would annoy me when working! After all the messages I received from you guys, I was convinced to put my desk in the middle of the room facing the door. I also like how my back is against the built-ins which would be a good background for zoom meetings. 😉
I love the look of desks in the middle of an office, but I always wondered how people plug in their computer/laptop/lamps especially when there’s a rug. We didn’t put any floor outlets in the middle of the room for my office, but I remember when we had that in Nick’s old office and it was so messy with cords plugged in. It was not cute. 😉 When I shared this on Instagram, I got messages from designers saying that they cut a small slit or ‘x’ on the rug and they just slip the cord through there to plug into the floor. GENIUS! Below are some pretty office inspo images where the desk is in the middle of an office!
This office designed by Studio McGee is the exact layout I want for my office. The built-ins would be against the wall, and where my iMac computer will go. Then my desk will go in front of the built-ins. My laptop will go on my desk, and if I need to charge it, I can just charge it on the wall outlet since we didn’t put a floor outlet in that room.
Here are some images of my office on September 18, 2020.
Can’t wait for this space to come together!
