Even though the first official day of fall is September 22nd, a lot of people are getting the itch to start decorating for fall. It feels like fall outside here in Iowa, so why not start now?! I debated whether to decorate my front porch at the new house for this blog post, but I decided to hold off on that until next month. I wanted to focus on an indoor space, so today I’m showing you how I styled Cecilia’s living room for the fall season!
I know I have some new followers here, so before I get into the fall decor, I wanted to quickly introduce myself and tell you how I became a home decor blogger. In 2015, we were building our previous house, and during that time, I created an Instagram account to document the process. I actually didn’t post that much, and the account wasn’t even public! Once we were moved into the house in 2016, I decided one day to start posting every.single.day on Instagram. I would decorate different parts of my house and share those images on Instagram. Eventually, other accounts started noticing and would share my house pictures. Then brands started sharing my images. My Instagram account continued to grow and more opportunities started arising. What was once a “just for fun” hobby became a fun job! I’m not a professional interior designer, but I believe I have an eye for design! š If you want a detailed version of how I got started, check out this blog post!
Now onto decorating the living room! Cecilia has a modern boho style, so the first thing I did was add this black leather lounge chair by her fireplace. It looks so sleek in here! This chair is so reasonably priced, and it also comes in three other colors. I’m snatching that cognac one when it goes back in stock!
There are so many ways to decorate for fall. You can either do the typical fall colors like red, orange, and yellow or you can go more neutral. With Cecilia’s style, I decided to go neutral but added fall elements like pumpkins and plaid/checkered patterns. The plaid pillow and “let’s stay home” pillow are perfect pillows for fall. You see a lot of people wearing plaid during the fall season, and this is the season when people want to be cozy and stay home. The “let’s stay home” pillow definitely speaks to me! š
You always see me using baskets in my house to hold blankets, pillows, or other items, and usually I have wicker baskets in my house. Since her style is more modern, I opted for a wire basket to use in this space.
Now for the lanterns! I have a huge collection of lanterns, and it’s a little ridiculous how many I have. Whoops! I feel like I can use these in any room though! Of course for Cecilia’s living room, I did black lanterns, and these are the large and medium-sized lanterns. Most people put candles in their lanterns, but I put pumpkins in there instead. š
To add more layers to your coffee table, I recommend getting a tray to set your stuff in. It also makes it feel more styled. I also got this large vase and put some faux fall florals in there.
I believe you can never have enough pillows, and I love switching these up depending on my style, mood, and holiday/season. Love how this tufted trellis pillow, black zigzag pillow, and striped oblong pillow complement each other so well!
I got different size faux pumpkins at Walmart, and I selected the pumpkins that were cream, brown, and had a hint of green. As you see, I set those inside the lanterns, by the lanterns, and I love adding those to the coffee table and side tables. I hope you enjoyed this blog post!
