I have a confession… I haven’t bought any furniture pieces for the new house.  That’s kind of a problem because we sold all our furniture (tables, beds, sofa, chairs, stools) along with our previous house.  When we moved into the rental, we only bought bed frames and mattresses for two of the bedrooms.  I didn’t want to spend more money getting an actual bed with a headboard and footboard when I knew we’d be getting the kids new beds before moving into the new build.  Here I am a little less than two months before moving in, and I haven’t bought anything.  Time to get the ball rolling!  You guys know I have three boys, and I wanted to do a different “theme” for each of their rooms.  With having to get furniture and decor for each of the kids’ rooms, thank goodness there’s Walmart where I can get stylish and affordable pieces!  Today, I wanted to share what I’m thinking about in Christian’s room!

Let me show you what his room looks like…this was during the drywall stage.  That far wall will be a wood accent wall, and his bed will go against that wall.  The closet is on the right as you can see, and the window to the left is actually the front of the house.  

Christian is 10 years old, and I wanted his room to feel like an older kids’ room with a sporty, industrial, and timeless feel.  When he gets into high school, I don’t want him to feel like his room is too kiddish.  

There were so many kids’ bedroom furniture and decor on the Walmart website to choose from, but I narrowed it down to these items below to get the look I wanted.  What do you think of this mood board?  

When designing this space, I wanted to stick with black, brown, and hints of olive green.  If you’re wanting to do more colorful and fun colors for your kids’ space, definitely check out Drew Barrymore’s kids line!  For Christian’s room, I knew it would have this wood accent wall and light fixture as shown in the mood board.  To continue the industrial look of the light fixture, I went with a metal bed.  I’ve always loved the look of metal beds in a kid’s room, and the black metal bed we had in Bashy’s room in the old house was also from Walmart.  Unfortunately, that bed is currently sold out, but I signed up for in-stock notifications just in case it comes back in stock.  😉 

A bedroom isn’t complete without a nightstand, and I love this black metal one!  It looks like it was meant to be in this kids’ bedroom.  I didn’t want everything to be black, so I went with a gold galvanized lamp to set on his nightstand.  In the old house, the kids never had desks in their rooms, but if I did decide to get a desk for Christian’s room, I would go with this metal and wood ladder desk.  Christian’s favorite sport is football, and I knew I had to incorporate that in his room somehow.  I was so happy to see these black vintage framed wall art on the Walmart website!  They also have cream ones too.  To keep his room clean, I included these storage baskets and laundry hamper!  It’s functional and also matches his room perfectly.  All the kids’ bedroom will have a light-colored carpet, and I went with this jute white and brown rug to finish off the room.

The last thing I wanted to include were throw pillows and blankets.  This is a great way to add color to a room.  As mentioned above, I wanted to do hints of olive green in his room so it wasn’t all brown and black.  Check out this turkish throw blanket and these square and rectangle plaid pillows!  

Getting a mood board together for a space helps so much when decorating and buying for a room.  I love how this mood board turned out, and I can’t wait to get Christian’s room all decorated!
